Painted by Utagawa Hiroshige in the late Edo period, One Hundred Famous Views of Edo is a series of ukiyo-e prints depicting famous sites around Edo (now Tokyo) through the changing seasons. Featuring bold compositions and poetic, innovative perspectives, these works vividly portray the daily life of Edo’s townspeople and the city’s picturesque scenery. They later traveled to Europe in the 19th century, profoundly influencing Impressionist painters such as Vincent van Gogh and Claude Monet.
