One Hundred Famous Views of Edo No.8Suruga Street

The fabric and kimono shop Echigoya—the predecessor of Mitsukoshi’s Nihonbashi store—was so successful that it had two locations on either side of Suruga-cho. The street was the subject of many ukiyo-e works, and was known as a place common folk aspired to visit. The clear view of Mount Fuji—then part of Suruga Province—gave the town its name.

It has been officially designated as a Traditional Craft by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and as a Tokyo Metropolitan Traditional Craft.
