This print depicts comings and goings through the Sujikai Gate near present-day Kanda-Sudacho. People traveling north from central Edo had to pass through this gate to cross the Kanda River, which effectively served as a moat. Because it was connected to eight roads, this place was also known as Yatsukoji and Yatsujigahara (one meaning of yatsu in Japanese is “eight”).
