Konodai is a plateau in northern Ichikawa City of what was then Shimousa Province (northern Chiba Prefecture). It commands a sweeping view of Edo Bay to the south, and was also the site of one of the fiercest battles of the Warring States period. This is actually the Edo River, a tributary created by the diversion of the Tone River, but it seems people continued to call it by the latter name for quite some time.
