This print depicts the grounds of Akiba Daigongen no Yashiro Shrine in Mukojima. The shrine was established by taking over an Inari shrine on a farmer’s land and enshrining a fire deity named Totomi Akiba Gongen. The shrine was especially popular with feudal lords, ladies-in-waiting and others seeking protection from fires. Many artists and writers in search of inspiration visited the skillfully landscaped grounds, which featured an artificial hill and a large pond.
