The Tamagawa Aqueduct was built to supply water from the Tama River to Edo. Over forty kilometers in length, parts of this aqueduct are said to have been underground. Cherry trees were planted along the embankments to secure the soil, making it a popular place for viewing cherry blossoms. This print shows the area around the present-day Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden.
