The hill seen on the opposite bank is called Matsuchiyama. The bridge to its right spans the mouth of Sanya Canal. Visitors to the Yoshiwara nightlife district arriving by boat would walk or ride in a palanquin to their destination from here. The woman shown walking along the bank of Mukojima is believed to have been modeled after Hiroshige’s favorite geisha.
