The Shakujii River is known as the Otonashi River in the area around Oji. This print depicts a spot further downstream than “Takinogawa in Oji.” The name “Otonashi,” meaning “without sound,” comes from placidity of the water above the dam in the background. The hill to the left is Asukayama. Above the waterfall is Kinrinji Temple, the administrative temple of Oji Gongen Shrine.
