“Yamashita” refers to the lowlands southeast of Ueno mountain where Ueno Station is now located. The group of women carrying parasols are ladies-in-waiting at Edo Castle, heading to view cherry blossoms on Ueno Hill. The restaurant on the right is Iseya, which was best known for serving bowls of rice and perilla leaves known as shisomeshi. You can see a flatfish and sea bream hanging in front of the shop.
