The Takata Riding Grounds were built by the third Tokugawa shogun, Iemitsu, as a training place for horsemanship and archery. A riding track can be seen in the midground, while the foreground is dominated by a circular archery target. The nunome-suri technique has been used to re-create the texture of stretched leather.
